This follows a public outcry over how Plan International is carrying out its directives as it is said to be sowing seeds of divisions and disharmony amongst locals as well as meddling in local politics.
Plan International has been operating in Zimbabwe since 1986 to tackle the root causes of discrimination against children. However; the organization has been fingered in local politics as it is trying to influence policy making both at national and international level whilst propping up opposition activities.
Martha Chikore said Plan International has failed to function within its statutes rather it is being biased which should not be the case with such organizations.
‘If you are not affiliated to the opposition CCC then you will not benefit anything from their programmes and we do not understand why such things happen since Plan is non- partisan’.
Furthermore, Sheila Makoni said the activities by Plan have plunged the less privileged and vulnerable people in poverty as it is extorting money from them.
‘They are stealing from us…Why do they ask us to pay them money if they genuinely want to help us?’
Sharing same sentiments; Loveness Chadehama said the people are already struggling and asking for money from them leaves a lot to be desired.
‘Plan is taking advantage of the poor instead of helping them out; that alone speaks volumes as to an agenda they are pushing.’
Zimbabwe has witnessed growth and development of civil society. There are over 1000 Non- Governmental Organizations operating in the country. The different organizations work on a plethora of issues.
